First things first, it's COLD here right now. I'm talking regular temps in the negatives with wind chill advisories on top of that. I've grown up in the Midwest and while I prefer the heat, I can handle the cold. Except for this. This is just ridiculous.

So when I was offered the opportunity to review the C9 by Champion winter, outdoor running line, I was a liiiiiiiittle apprehensive about it. And I'm not going to lie that I was incredibly hopeful it would warm up a bit before actually testing the line. But it didn't, so it was literally so.cold when we took these pictures (Husby said I should have screenshot the temp on my weather app!).

The thing that surprised me was that these workout pieces really are warm. The "feels like" temp according to my weather app was negative 17 degrees when we took these, and I wasn't even cold! So to actually run in them, while breathing in these conditions is something I'm not currently contidioned for, the clothes are plenty warm enough.

My favorite part about these pieces is that they aren't bulky. Looking at these pictures you would think I'd be freezing, but they really are made for this! Here's the breakdown:

C9 Champion Premium Cold Weather Legging. Water repellent, 4-way stretch for comfort, Power Core Compression supports muscles and movements, Duo Dry Max wicks away moisture. Thick without being uncomfortable, SO WARM!

C9 Champion Baselayer Core Long Sleeve Crew. Provides added warmth to be worn under other workout gear. Polyester, spandex blend.

C9 Champion Cold Weather Run Pollover. Another SO WARM item. High, ventilated cowl neck pulls up to cover your face if needed. Duo Dry fabric wicks away moisture and has a special blend to keep you insulated and warm. Power Core Compression fabric supports and warms muscles.

The jacket, hat and gloves are all part of the C9 by Champion line as well, but the three items listed above were the definite game changers for this winter weather.

C9 by Champion is a line exclusive to Target, making it affordable but with the quality of a highend workout line. I've always purchased a lot of my workout pieces from the Champion line because the sports bras are so comfortable, but now that I've had a chance to try other pieces I'm sold on expanding my collection even more.

I'll even let you in on a little secret: all the winter items are going on sale, well, NOW! And anything you purchase online can always be returned or exchanged in an Target store, so you don't even have to go out in the cold to buy them.

So...what are you waiting for?

12 hours a valentine.

FEBRUARY 17, 2015 BY HEATHER ANDERS

It's not often we get a full day where all three of us get to spend time together. Between my travel schedule and Husby's recording studio, our time with all three of us together for any extended time period, much less a full day, is almost nonexistent. So it was a true Valentine's treat to have this day devoted to the three of us together.

And it was such a perfect day.

It's amazing to see that there really is a difference in Adelyn's demeanor when we're both present all.day. She voluntarily stopped to give each of us hugs and kisses so many times throughout the day that we realized we need to really prioritize planning in full family days a little more often.

VIDEO: BEACHY WAVES TUTORIAL.

FEBRUARY 13, 2015 BY HEATHER ANDERS

For the last couple of months I’ve been getting A LOT of requests on how I do my hair to get the kind of beachy, flowing waves you see in a lot of my pictures. I’ve tried to explain it through messages to some people and verbally to others, and it apparently I must be really bad at it because almost everyone has come back asking me for a better explanation (I’m sorry!!!).

So, here’s a video showing you how I do it. It’s so easy and takes LESS THAN 10 MINUTES once you get the hang of it. Yes, this is a fact!

Ok, so here are a few extra tips to help you.

1. I’m using this curling wand. It’s amazing and it’s cheap.

2. I wash my hair at night, let it air dry and sleep on it. I don’t use a blow dryer.

3. I only wash my hair every 3-4 days. Therefore I use dry shampoo way more than regular shampoo. This dry shampoo is my current fav and... [Continue reading...]

Valentine's day Gift guide: 2015.

FEBRUARY 5, 2015 BY HEATHER ANDERS

If you're anything like me, I really don't want a big gift for every occasion. But I do still like to know I'm appreciated by that adorable man sitting on the other end of the couch from me as I type this. If that's more the way you see this holiday, I suggest leaving this page up {nonchalantly of course} for your significant other to see as a hint for a small little something for Valentine's Day next weekend.

Everything on this list is totally affordable without being a cheap piece of garbage, so you can feel appreciated and he can feel like he did something for you without having to make some major budget cuts in other areas to afford it.

Are you a chica without a man? Or do you just know that even if you printscreen this page and text it to your guy that he just won't get it and chance are he won't even acknowledge the day? Well, all these items are super chic but still at a price that you can afford yourself without feeling guilty! So...buy away girlfriend!

BUFFALO PLAid:

MORE THAN A TREND.

FEBRUARY 2, 2015 BY HEATHER ANDERS

Do you ever have those days where you just miss your grandpa? Where you’re just drawn to reminiscing about simpler times and he just always seems to be the center of those memories? That’s how it is with my grandpa, and this weekend was just one of those weekends. My grandpa passed away just under four years ago, but even that short length of time ago it just seemed like life was easier…if only because he was here.

My grandpa was basically the original buffalo plaid wearer. He had so many variations of the black and red print that I think all of the grandkids (and there are A LOT of us), have one of his old shirts. If I remember correctly, one of my aunts also made a blanket out of some of his shirts. Point is, the man owned this trend before it was trendy.

He was a hunter and a fisher and lover of all things outdoors. There are stacks of pictures of us as kids with of all of us fishing in one of his two ponds that he stocked with blue gill just so his grandkids could learn to love the things he was passionate about. And we all did, because he was
