Key Pieces To Add To (or keep in) Your Fall Closet

If you’re anything like me, when these fall temperatures poke through that last summer heat wave you’re in sheer heaven. Fall is without a doubt my favorite time of year. The air is crisp, the mornings are refreshing and the style is out of this world. Everything about fall puts a smile on this girl’s face. The temperature is typically just right for layers—many or few—giving us just enough creative leeway with fashion that we can be individualistic but right on trend without a lot of effort. We don’t have to cover up that perfect outfit with a heavy coat, and we can enjoy nonfat chai lattes as we walk outdoors taking in the changing leaves. Yes, I love fall. Oddly enough, the fall temperatures in Wisconsin took a little longer than usual to stick around. Just the other week it was 80 degrees again! So while I feel a little behind on this fall fashion post, I’m right on queue for getting to wear these staples around here. Below is a picture of some key pieces I plan on adding (or have already added!) to my closet this season. Some are on trend, but others are just classics that I know will be staples for years.

Camouflage: I have to say, I’m totally digging that this trend is in. Camouflage and military are teaming up this season, and what’s even better is that you can find it all in super chic, flattering styles. These adorable studded camo flats from Target are a must if you ask me, and I’ve been seriously eying up this camo jacket from PacSun. Aztec: I’m not always huge on prints, but I really love the Aztec look lately. I’ve been on the hunt to find the most perfect, cozy Aztec cardigan that also won’t break my bank. While I still haven’t found that, I do love this darling Aztec tote from Target. The best part? It’s only $24.99! Burgundy Skinnies: These are one of those staples that some of you might have jumped on last season. While last fall the olive and bright red skinnies really hit the fashion scene (and are still in this year), burgundy is where it’s really at now. I love it because they can be paired up with so many items and draw just the right amount of attention. There are quite a few options out there, but I personally like this super skinny, zipper pocket pair from Forever 21. Fedora: The great thing about hats right now is that there are so many cute types out there, and wearing one allows you to cut your morning prep time in half and still look totally put together. I have a special place in my heart for Fedoras, especially if you can find one that’s just a little different than the standard tan color everyone seems to have. This burgundy version I found at Forever 21 is perfect, but I’m in search of one in navy or army green instead of burgundy. If I can’t find one I’m willing to sign off on, this one just might make its way onto my hat rack. Leather: Let’s be honest, real leather is without a doubt the preference, but it’s also something that can put quite the hole in your wallet. The good news? Faux leather is just as on trend. It made its debut last year, but being the pregnant gal I was it wasn’t a good time to jump on that bandwagon (Husby is, I’m sure, happy I didn’t try anyway). This year is my year, and H&M and Forever 21 can collaboratively help me add these pieces. These black faux leather skinnies from H&M are comfortable and surprisingly flattering, especially with a loose top. But this taupe faux leather jacket is what really makes my heart throb. If you don’t want to stop there, they also have an adorable rose faux leather jacket and one in mint green. Yes, my heart might have just skipped a beat. Leopard: Another trend from last year that’s sticking around. That’s right, our lady friend leopard has made it into another fall line up and she’s going strong. Keep in mind, though, that leopard print is eye catching on its own, so don’t go too far. A little leopard goes a long way. I’ve found that the easiest way to incorporate it is in your accessories. H&M has this classic, lightweight leopard print scarf that has the simplicity to spice up almost anything. Want to stand out a little more? This two-toned leopard print with bright orange infinity scarf from Old Navy brings this season’s bright color trend into the mix. Might as well kill two birds…ehem…leopards(?) with one stone!
