What's In A Note?
A lot, actually.
I forget exactly when they started, but it was well before he was my husband. It might have even been before he was my fiancé. The point is, they started. And continued.
Husby and I have a routine in the mornings (which is especially important now that there’s a third in our family). From who is the unlucky one to get out of bed first and shower all the way to who lets the dog out, routine is what gets us through the Monday-Friday morning zombie crawl. One thing Husby took on quite some time ago was packing lunches for both of us. We started it as a way to ensure healthy eating throughout the day, but we quickly found it was also a great way to save money.
If we packed lunches, I didn’t have to feel quite as guilty about that $3.58 Starbucks tall, sugar-free vanilla, nonfat, no water chai latte.
Back when he first started bringing me a lunch to the office, Husby always included a little note in my lunch bag. Some days he would write a simple “I love you”, and other days he would write something more detailed. The point is, it never stopped.
So here we are, over three years and a baby later, and he continues to take the time to write me lunch notes. And they continue to make me smile. This was today’s:

I don’t know if it was the weekend travel (we took Adelyn to Minneapolis for a wedding—a post on baby travel necessities will be coming later this week), but her sleep schedule is definitely off. Last week she consistently slept from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., and so far this week she’s all over the board. We’re tired. We’ve gotten used to averaging seven hours of sleep a night again. Then, in comes this note.
On a day when the rain keeps falling outside, coffee can’t seem to fully wake me up, and I’m scrambling to focus on a number of different projects at work, these notes keep me going. They make me smile. They give me that extra oomph in my day.
As you can see, I keep every note he's written me.

Because even if the written words are short…

…there is so much meaning in a simple note.
