Tricks & Treats

For some reason Halloween has never been a holiday that really excites me. Maybe it’s because it’s so close to Thanksgiving and Christmas and I’m a holiday junkie when it comes to those two. Or maybe it’s because I’m an easy scare so having a day that it’s socially acceptable for creeps and weirdo’s to wear masks freaks me out. Whatever it is, every year Halloween comes and goes and in hindsight it was really just another event I had to plan for just because that’s what you do.

Then I had Adelyn. Suddenly even Halloween had me excited because heaven forbid she miss out on one tiny experience that she’ll never remember her first year of life.

I ordered Adelyn’s costume a full month before Halloween. (I don’t think I’ve ever planned my own Halloween costume more than a week out in the past, and I was usually committed to a party of sorts to attend.) At the time I ordered hers I had no idea what I was going to use it for; I mean, you can’t really take an almost 4-month-old trick or treating without people thinking you’re a hormonally-raged woman in dire need of chocolate, ya know?

Luckily an idea came to mind shortly after ordering the costume: drive 45 minutes south to Husby’s old neighborhood and trick Grandma and Grandpa Anders with a fluffy pink bunny posing as their granddaughter.

So that's what we did, and the trick worked perfectly. Everyone was surprised, and we even took her to visit the surrounding neighbors and collected some treats. Even Kiva came with, dressed up as Eeyore.

Of course we couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a picture of Adelyn with her first pile of Halloween candy.

When I set her on the boppy for the picture, at first I put all the candy right on the boppy next to her. A snickers fell behind it and the best part was watching her as it fell. I understand a little more why I had such a sweet tooth when I was pregnant because as you can see, she was not about to let that snickers get away!

All in all, it was a good Halloween. I have to admit that Halloween with a little kid to dress up and flaunt around is a little more fun—and a lot less scary—than Halloweens past.
